Checkout rules you can understand

Keep checkout options relevant to each order with MegalogicStudio Checkout Rule Guard, a free WooCommerce plugin for simple payment and shipping restrictions.

Choose a payment or shipping method, set a product subtotal or country condition, and review a sample in the rule preview. Rules are evaluated on the server and work with the Classic Checkout and WooCommerce Checkout Blocks integrations tested for this release.

The free plugin includes the visual rule editor, all three templates, rule preview, server-side evaluation, and configuration conflict warnings. There are no paid feature locks, account requirements, telemetry, or advertising SDKs.

What you can do

Hide Cash on Delivery when the product subtotal is above a threshold.

Hide a selected payment method for a matching billing or shipping country.

Hide a selected shipping method for a matching destination country.

Preview sample subtotal and country values before testing a real checkout.

See which enabled rules match and receive a warning when the configured model would hide every listed option.

Important behavior

The amount condition uses the WooCommerce product subtotal before discounts, excluding tax, shipping, and fees, in the store currency. A coupon can reduce the amount due without changing this rule value. The preview uses payment methods enabled in WooCommerce settings and configured shipping method instances. It cannot verify third-party gateway availability in real time, guarantee shipping-zone matching, or authorize a payment. Always test with your own theme, gateway, shipping setup, and checkout type on staging.

Installation guide

  1. In WordPress admin, open Plugins → Add New Plugin.
  2. Search for MegalogicStudio Checkout Rule Guard and choose Install Now, then Activate.
  3. Confirm WooCommerce is installed and active.
  4. Open WooCommerce → Checkout Rules.
  5. Choose one of the three free templates and select the method and condition. For an amount rule, confirm the store currency and test values below, equal to, and above the threshold.
  6. Save the rule and use Preview rules with sample subtotal and country values.
  7. Test both matching and non-matching checkout cases on a staging site. Confirm another appropriate payment/shipping option remains available before enabling restrictions on a live store.

Frequently asked questions

Is the free version usable on its own?

Yes. The 0.3.1 free release includes the rule editor, all three templates, preview, conflict warnings, and checkout evaluation without account registration or paid feature locks.

Does the amount rule use the final amount the customer pays?

No. It uses the product subtotal before discounts, excluding tax, shipping, and fees. The store currency is shown in the rule editor.

What happens when the subtotal equals the threshold?

For the “is greater than” operator, an amount exactly equal to the threshold does not match. Only an amount above it matches.

Does preview create an order or change the cart?

No. Preview evaluates saved enabled rules against sample values. It does not create an order, change a shopper's cart, or save the sample values.

Can preview confirm my gateway or shipping zone will work?

No. Preview uses methods enabled in WooCommerce settings and configured shipping instances. It cannot check third-party gateway availability in real time, guarantee shipping-zone matching, or authorize payment. Verify on staging.

Which checkout types and versions were tested?

The release was locally tested with WordPress 7.1.3, WooCommerce 11.2.1, Classic Checkout, and Checkout Blocks. Other versions, themes, third-party gateways, shipping extensions, and multisite setups have not been verified.

Does the plugin send store or customer data to an external service?

No telemetry or third-party service calls are included. Rules are stored in the WordPress site's options. Checkout evaluates the WooCommerce cart and address context locally; the plugin does not log or transmit that context.

What happens if I deactivate or uninstall it?

Deactivation stops this plugin's checkout filters and preserves saved rules. Uninstalling also leaves the rule option in the database. Delete saved rules from WooCommerce → Checkout Rules before uninstalling if you want to remove them.

Is it affiliated with WooCommerce or Automattic?

No. MegalogicStudio Checkout Rule Guard is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Automattic. WooCommerce is a trademark of Automattic Inc.
